The Organix Profile
of urine organic acids
A comprehensive look at your cellular metabolic processes and function.
The Organix Profile provides a view into your body's cellular metabolic processes and the efficiency of metabolic function. Identifying metabolic blocks that can be treated allows individual tailoring of your wellness program that maximizes your responses and leads to improved health.
Why is Measuring Organic Acids Important?
Your body is constantly generating products from metabolic reactions. Modern technology allows the accurate measurement of these metabolic products in urine. Many of the compounds that are found give clues about how your body is working and where specific additions of vitamins or minerals may be needed.
For example, scientific research has shown that a deficiency of vitamin B12 produces high levels of a urinary organic acid called methylmalonic acid. Other organic acids can show deficiencies of vitamin B1, vitamin B6, or folic acid.
This profile measures many such compounds that let us see evidence of your need for virtually all B-vitamins. Also included are organic acids produced by intestinal bacteria and yeasts as well as products of hormones and detoxification.
An Important Test for Chronic Illness
Many chronic health problems can be difficult to diagnose, especially when they involve nonspecific symptoms such as fatigue, foggy thinking, malaise, gastrointestinal upset, joint aches,or sleep cycle disturbances. Standard medical tests are designed to identify disease states. Organic acid testing does not diagnose disease; it helps to give insight into the causes of disease. This profile helps assess specific metabolic dysfunctions. Then we can customize a nutritional program for you that manages those areas in need of support. This allows an approach that is beyond symptom management. Our goal is to identify dysfunctions related to nutritional deficiencies and correct them before disease is allowed to develop.
From a single urine specimen, the Organix Profile reports on the following:
- Fatty acid metabolism
- Carbohydrate metabolism
- Energy production
- B-Complex sufficiency
- Methylation co-factor markers
- Neurotransmitter metabolism markers
- Oxidative Damage and Antioxidant markers
- Detoxification status
- Intestinal dysbiosis - bacterial
- Intestinal dysbiosis - L. acidophilus
- Intestinal dysbiosis - yeast/fungal
- Inflammatory reactions
Organic acids are metabolic intermediates that are produced in pathways of central energy production, detoxification, neurotransmitter breakdown, or intestinal microbial activity. Accumulation of specific organic acids detected in urine often signals a metabolic inhibition or block. The metabolic block may be due to nutrient deficiency, an inherited enzyme deficit, toxic build up, or drug effect.
Several of the analytics are markers of intestinal bacterial or yeast overgrowth. The intestinal dysbiosis markers measure the by-products of bacterial and yeast metabolism that are excreted in urine. The dysbiosis markers are particularly useful in detecting the presence of pathogenic microbial overgrowth and in monitoring therapy.
It is not necessary to discontinue nutritional supplements or oral hormones prior to this test.
Based on the report of the functional markers, the Organix test panel will reveal the vitamins, mineral, amino acids, and other nutritional factors that are indicated by the patterns of abnormalities. The therapy guide that is generated by the test shows which nutrients are potentially insufficient and the likelihood that supplementation is needed. This is derived from the degree of abnormality and the number of markers simultaneously abnormal. Using this therapy guide it can be determined which are the most important areas where nutritional support will be beneficial. In addition, follow up testing allows the measurement of improvements.
